Treatments
Anti-Wrinkle Injections and Dermal Fillers
Which treatment is best for me?
Both treatments can be used to reduce the apperace of wrinkles in the face. Both can help rejuvenate the skin and help to achive a fresher more youthfull look. This section examines what each treatment can be used for and what results we can expect:
- People often talk about Botox treatments but what what is Botox?
- Botox is simply one brand of a Botulinum Toxin Type A.
- Botulinum toxin treatments work by reducing the activity of the muscles such as the ones we use when we frown.
- Dermal fillers on the other hand have no effect on the muscles but restore or add volume to the skin.
So each type of treatment can be used alone or in combination with the other to achive the desired result. I have broken down common questions I am asked about each treatment below.
I perform anti-wrinkle injection treatments
Botulinum Toxin is a purified protein that blocks the signals that the brain sends to the muscles. This prevents the muscles from contracting meaning that when your facial expression changes the overlying skin appears smoother and unwrinkled. Untreated muscles in the face work as normal allowing a normal range of expression.
I offer a free, no obligation initial consultation in where I will do an assessment and we can discuss your hopes for the treatment, and any concerns you may have. I will only offer treatment if I am confident the desired affect is realistic and achievable. Some patients suffering from a few rare medical conditions, for example, Myasthenia Gravis are unsuitable for the treatment. I don’t treat pregnant or breast feeding women or those with an egg allergy.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Anyone with a history of anaphylactic shock.
- If laser treatment of chemical skin peels have been carried out 6 weeks prior.
- The presence of implants close to the region to be injected.
- Local infection at or close to the injection site.
- Slight bruising or swelling to the injected area.
- Some discomfort upon pressure at the injection site.
- Potential discolouration at the injection site.
- There is a very small risk of infection at the injection site.
- A rare side effect is drooping of the eyebrows or eyelids.
The treatment begins to take effect within the week of administration. The full effects will be achieved after around two weeks. At this stage, you will have your follow up consultation and top up injections if required, at no additional cost. The treatments usually last 2-6 months and on average people require 3 per year to maintain the desired results. After a repeated treatments, some people find they require less frequent treatments as they no longer are in the habit of frowning which causes the furrows and wrinkles in the first place.
Teosyal is a new range of products introduced into the UK in 2005 but are already becoming widely popular. The products are made up of non-animal 100% Hyaluronic acid based fillers. Teosyal contains no hyaluronic acid from animal which means no pre-test is required and can be used immediately. Teosyal products are highly biocompatible and are slowly released.
Hyaluronic acid is present in every living organism and is present in the skin of humans. Hyaluronic acid works to preserve the moisture levels in our skin and boost the tone of the skin. As we age the levels of hyaluronic acid on our skin begin to decrease. The skin begins to dry out and gives us the appearance of fine lines.
The most popular fillers at the moment are for augmenting the appearance of the lips. Giving the lips more volume, an enhanced shape or a combination of both. Dermal fillers can also be used to restore lost volume in other areas of the face such as lines that develop above the lips. Dermal fillers when used in specific areas, can create volume and lift to reduce some of the sagging that is brought about by aging, sometimes referred to as a ‘liquid facelift’, ‘the 8 point face lift’ or ‘non-surgical facelift’. The fillers work by creating volume, hydrating and plumping up the skin in the treated area.
Dermal fillers are suitable for men and women. I offer a free, no obligation initial consultation at which I will do an assessment and we will discuss your hopes for the treatment and any concerns you may have. As the fillers are carefully selected and prescribed depending on the treatment required, you will usually need to return for a second appointment to receive the treatment. I will only offer treatment if I am confident the desired affect is realistic and achievable. Pregnant or breast feeding women should not receive this treatment. Those with certain medical conditions or taking medications that thin the blood may not be suitable for treatment. If you have an active infection such as a cold sore or acne at the site of treatment, you would need to wait until it has healed before proceeding.

You should not do any exercise or drink alcohol on the day of the treatment. Avoid application of makeup for 12 hours after treatment. Avoid facials, laser treatment, chemical peels or sun beds for 2 weeks after treatment. This will help to reduce the duration of swelling and reduce likelihood and duration of any bruising. Cold packs can be used to reduce any swelling. Sometimes the product may feel a little lumpy initially but over the next few weeks this settles and softens up. If you are wanting to have treatment for a special occasion, I would recommend you book the treatment at least 2 weeks before the event to ensure any bruising has settled and the final effect is reached.
Each session takes around 30 minutes to be completed. There is no recovery time required with this procedure, making this treatment an ideal lunch time treatment. Some patients may wish to have more than one session to reach the desired effect. This however is dependent on the patient’s level of deterioration in the skin, age, skin type, and the structure of their face.
It is recommended that Dermal filler treatments should only be carried out by Medical Professionals only.
